Hamas has announced that Edan Alexander, the last known living American hostage held in Gaza, will soon be released, following recent talks with the U.S. administration. Khalil Al-Hayya, head of Hamas’ negotiating team, revealed that they had been in contact with U.S. officials in recent days. These discussions have shown “high positivity,” according to Hamas, and the group has expressed a readiness to engage in intensive negotiations aimed at halting the war and securing an agreement for prisoner exchanges.
The Alexander family, whose son’s release has been a focal point of concern, expressed their immense gratitude for the news. They referred to the announcement as “the greatest gift imaginable,” particularly on Mother’s Day. They also thanked U.S. President Donald Trump, his envoy Steve Witkoff, and the administration for their tireless efforts.
Former President Trump praised the news as “monumental” and described it as a “step taken in good faith” toward peace. Trump acknowledged the mediation efforts of Qatar and Egypt, which have been pivotal in the discussions aimed at resolving the conflict and securing the release of hostages.
